Building on 100+ Years of Flooring Expertise
The Boss family has been deeply rooted in the flooring industry for more than 100 years, spanning six generations of craftsmanship and dedication.
It began with Herman J. Boss, who spent over five decades as head of interior design at Marshall Field’s & Co. in Chicago. His son, John H. Boss, continued the tradition by purchasing a braided rug machine from the Deltox Company and starting a family business that produced braided rugs by hand and machine. In 1944, the Boss family opened their first flooring store in Westmont, IL, later moving operations to Hendersonville, NC in 1969.
In 1981, John and Julie Boss returned the family business to Illinois by opening Boss Carpet in Dixon. Rapid growth led to a new store on Galena Avenue in 1985. Their son Ben, a graduate of Northern Illinois University, joined the business in 1995, and in 2000, Nick Boss opened a second Illinois store in Freeport. Expansion continued in 2003 with the opening of a location in Cape Coral, Florida.
Today, Boss Contract Flooring carries forward this century-long legacy under the leadership of Ben Boss in Illinois. With a strong foundation of tradition, innovation, and customer care, we continue to deliver flooring solutions built on performance, quality, and trust.
